Most of my botanicals are shot on location where the plant has grown, although sometimes to isolate a particular feature I will bring the plant into the studio. As usual I use natural light whenever possible.
In addition to the usual consideration of aesthetics, plants to me also represent a rich language of culture, history, and symbol. Because many have lifespans much shorter or much longer than ours, they can evoke thoughts about time and the processes of growth and decay on a scale diferent from the one we use, with perhaps something to be learned from the comparison.
